I have been painting for nearly three decades, exploring process and outcome, meaning and metaphor.
Over the years, with life events, cross-country moves, travel, births and deaths, artistic interests developed and evolved. University text-based work gave way to still life, portraiture, landscape and abstraction. Below is a selection of work form the last decade. My painting process continues to begin with underpainting using a carefully chosen color to influence the piece. Often, scribbled lines are incised into the paint, bringing a sense of movement and energy, adding to the artwork’s history. The painting is developed further with calligraphic marks and color. Sometimes, glazes are applied, which randomly accentuate or even obscure events in the painting.
